Mt Tatamailau – or Mt Ramelau as it is commonly called – at 2,964m, is the highest mountain in East Timor and home to the Mambai people. Since 1975 it has provided a sanctuary for East Timorese resistance and is considered, like the men and women it protects, to be indestructible. In colourful Nairobi, we check out the fantastic African crafts at the local market, feed the giraffes at the Giraffe Manor and spend time with orphaned elephants at the elephant orphanage. Heading to the Rift Valley lakes, we hope to see the thousands of pink flamingos, which create a colourful carpet across the water surface. At Lake Nakuru our game drives take in a vast amount of bird life and hopefully white rhino, while at Lake Naivasha we’ll go for a boat ride looking for hippos.

We’ll spend two full days in the spectacular grasslands of the Masai Mara watching for plains game – wildebeest, zebra and gazelle – closely followed by the predators – lion, hyena, cheetah and the elusive leopard. We begin our Egypt adventure in Cairo, where we see the treasures of Tutankhamun and the royal mummies, including Ramses II. Later we visit the pyramids and Sphinx before a sleeper train takes us to Aswan. Here we ride camels, sail in a traditional felucca and explore the Nubian bazaar. Boarding our riverboat we cruise to Luxor, visiting the temples of Komombo and Edfu along the way. We explore the massive temple complex at Karnak and cross the Nile to visit the celebrated Valley of the Kings and the beautiful Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Driving to the coast we have a couple of days by the beach, including a fun boat trip with fantastic snorkelling. We then head back to Cairo and spend a final morning in the Khan el Khalili bazaar.

Victoria Falls, or ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ as it’s known by the locals, is one of the seven natural wonders of the world and is truly an unforgettable sight! We spend one night in this exciting region and include a tour of the falls themselves – be prepared to get very wet!

Our next stop is Chobe National Park, famous for its large buffalo herds and home to Africa’s largest elephant population. As well as game drives, a cruise on the Chobe River gives us a wonderful and somewhat different way of viewing the wildlife, as elephants, hippos and giraffes come down to the banks to quench their thirst. Botswana is a diverse country, rich in culture and spectacular scenery, none more so than the pristine natural wonderland of the Okavango Delta.
