Visitors to Tana Toraja, the Land of Heavenly Kings, are either attracted by its unique culture and rituals, most of which are centered around graves and death ceremonies while others prefer to avoid the morbid images and go trekking through the spectacular, almost untouched Toraja countryside visiting remote villages, or exhilarate in rafting the Sa’dan river rapids.
Return direct international SIN/UPG/SIN flights will be on Garuda Indonesia.

Itinerary
Day 01 / Singapore – Makassar GA849 SIN/UPG 18:50/20:00
Arrive Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, Makassar and transfer to hotel.
Day 02 / Makassar – Rantepao (-/L/D)
After breakfast, drive to Rantepao (8 hours), through the remote villages of the Bugis people. Stop this afternoon for lunch at a local restaurant. Continue driving through the hills before reaching Rantepao in the late afternoon. Tana Toraja is home to an ethnic group famous for their elaborate funeral rites, traditional houses and spectacular carving and dancing.
Overnight in Rantepao.
Day 03 / Toraja Sightseeing – Lemo and Suaya – Marthen Mande Orphanage – Tongkonan (B/L/D)
Head south to visit two villages, Lemo and Suaya villages which are surrounded by cliffs pierced with graves and tau tau (hanging effigies) of deceased noblility. These cliffs are also referred to as the ‘death balconies’ due to their perilious location. Next, visit Sangala where graves are dug into tree trunks, the traditional burial for infants.
Make a difference with a visit to Marthen Mande orphanage, where children are experts on the Angklung, a traditional bamboo musical instrument. Make a donation and fund their future education. After lunch, visit Londa village where coffins are suspended by ropes and poles from cliffs. Time permitting, continue to Ketekesu, a village which has one of the finest ensembles of Tongkonan (Toraja traditional houses). Return to the hotel late this afternoon.

Day 04 / Rantepao – Bolu Traditional Market – Trekking – Weaving Visit – Toraja (B/-/-)
If the schedule permits, immerse in the bustling life of the Torajans in their weekly buffalo traditional market in Bolu. Continue to Batutumonga for an option of a one or two-hour trek through fascinating Toraja villages, all perched on the slopes of Mt Sesean. Wonderful views of rice fields dotted with large black rocks, remains of ancient volcanic eruptions are guaranteed as well. Return to Rantepao, first with a stop at a Todi weaving factory followed by a visit to Marante village noted for its tau tau. Return to the hotel in time for dinner.

Day 05 / Rantepao – Makassar (B/-/-)
After an early breakfast, drive back to Makassar (8 hours) stopping en route for lunch in Pare Pare.
Transfer to hotel on arrival in the late afternoon.
Overnight in Makassar.
Day 06 / Makassar – Singapore GA 848 UPG/SIN 15:00/17:50
The morning is free until our transfer to the airport for our departure flight to Singapore.
