9D Hornbill Festival 2011,
Nagaland, India
The Hornbill festival is a collective celebration by all Naga tribes at one venue.
It is a tribute to the Great “Hornbill” which is the most admired and revered bird for the Nagas. The awe and admiration for the bird is symbolically displayed on almist all tribal traditional headgears worn during the festival.

Itinerary
Day 01 / Arrive Kaziranga – Mon
Pick up from Kaziranga – Drive to Mon 280km about 6 hrs. Overnight at Resort in Mon.
Day 02 / Mon sightseeing
Morning after breakfast sightseeing in Shangnyu village. Visit the Anghs house, and place where they keep the heads during the headhunting days, and also visit the Morung. Shangnyu also has a museum where one can see wood carvings believed by the villagers to have been made by supernatural powers. Also visit the place where they used to throw people during the head hunting days for capital punishment. On the drive back to Mon visit Mon village. Overnight at the Resort.
Day 03 / Mon – Luangwa
Morning drive to Luangwa. Mon-Luangwa 42 kms about 2hrs. On the way to Luangwa stop at Sheangha Chingnyu village, then straight to Luangwa. Meet the real Nagas and experience the original Naga culture and tradition. Overnight at Luangwa.
Day 04 / Luangwa – Mon -Dimapur
Drive back to Mon then onto Dimapur. Evening stroll in Dimapur town. Overnight at Dimapur.
Day 05 / Dimapur – Kohima
Morning Drive to Kohima. Sightseeing in Kohima, includes War Cemetery, WW II Museum. Overnight at Kohima.
Days 06-07 / Kohima – 2 Days at the Hornbill Festival
2 Days at the Hornbill Festival” (Dec 01-07 every year)
Day 08 / Kohima – Guwahati
Morning Drive to Guwahati. Afternoon explore the bustling town of Guwahati. Overnight in Guwahati.
Day 09 / Depart Guwahati
After breakfast drive to Guwahati Airport for our departure flight.
