The three most important destinations in Eastern Sabah in one package: Sepilok Orang Utan Centre, Turtle Island and the Kinabatangan wildlife experience. Your opportunity to get up close to some of Borneo’s most charismatic wildlife.
Day 01 / Arrive Sandakan
Upon arrival in Sandakan, transfer to Sabah Hotel (formerly Renaissance Sandakan). Free at own leisure. Overnight Sabah Hotel.
Day 02 / Sandakan - Selingan Turtle Island
In the morning, transfer to the jetty for an hour’s trip by speedboat to Selingan Turtle Island. Check in at one of the chalets on the island and have lunch at the restaurant. The afternoon is free for relaxing, birdwatching or for snorkeling. In the evening, a Park Ranger will escort you to watch one of the green turtles that have come ashore to lay their eggs. Overnight at the Park Chalets. (B/L/D)
Day 03 / Selingan - Sandakan & Gomantong Caves
Depart Selingan for Sandakan. Visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary to watch the feeding of Orang Utans and view a video presentation of their rehabilitation. Continue your journey overland to Gomantong Caves, the largest birds nests cave in Sabah, famous for its swiftlets and their edible nests. Proceed to Sukau for lunch and a short briefing on the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary. In the afternoon, go on a river cruise down the Menanggul River in search of proboscis monkeys, birds and other wildlife. Return at dusk for dinner. Overnight at the Kinabatangan Riverside lodge. Day 04 / Ox Bow Lake & River Cruise
Take a second boat trip for bird watching and viewing wildlife at the Ox Bow Lake nearby. Trek the lush riverine forest along the lake and then return to the lodge for breakfast. In the afternoon, venture on another river cruise down the Menanggul River and along the Kinabatangan River. Return to the lodge at dusk. Evening at leisure. Overnight at the Kinabatangan Riverside lodge. (B/L/D)
Day 05 / Sukau - Sandakan
After breakfast, free at own leisure. After lunch, depart by boat to Sandakan, passing Sukau Villages and Mangroves. There will be an opportunity to search for more wildlife on the 2-3 hour boat ride to Sandakan. Upon arrival at the jetty, transfer to airport. Lunch will be arranged at Sandakan instead of sukau.
