Travel packages featuring Christmas Island
Exploring the waters surrounding the island is an experience not to be missed. Myriads of tropical fish swim by in only metres of water, while a short distance away, divers can cruise the drop-off which plunges dramatically into the abyss. You may even bump into one of our local spinner dolphins or at certain times of the year meet the majestic whaleshark!
Christmas Island is known as one of the most unique dive locations on the planet. With pristine waters, spectacular corals, an awesome drop off and BIG and bountiful marine life, it offers divers an extraordinary experience that will never be forgotten!
With warm 27C waters, visibility often reaching 50 metres, and with over 40 dive locations to choose from, diving on Christmas Island is truly a once in a lifetime experience!
Bird week participants will be invited in small groups to help Dr Janos Hennicke catch Abbott’s Boobies high in the rainforest canopy, assist Nick Mooney to colour-band Brown Boobies and monitor their colonies on the remote and secluded rocky coasts, and work with Nic Dunlop and Tim Low to study the nesting biology and foraging ecology of Christmas Island Frigatebirds and Red-tailed Tropicbirds.
Christmas Island Tourism Association (CITA) has been working closely with local tourism and dive operators on the Island and with Underwater Australasia on the concept of holding the annual Australian Underwater Festival here on Christmas Island. The work has paid off and the Underwater Festival 2010 will be held here on the Island in April 2010.
This is a huge opportunity to once again showcase our unique environment to a worldwide audience. Plans are now underway to develop the Festival packages and activities to be held during the Festival week (Apr 24–30, 2010).
