Christmas Island is most commonly known for the annual Red Crab Migration and the spawning of these land crabs after the first rains in November/December each year. Whale Sharks also appear at this time feeding on plankton and the baby red crab larvae.
Frigate bird on Christmas Island
The island is also World Heritage Listed for its Fresh Water Mangrove Swamp and has an amazing 35 Endemic Species. Bird Watching and Private Bird Tours are a common interest for visitors, with many different types of Nature Walks and Adventure Tours to choose from, no wonder Christmas Island is known as the Galapagos of the Indian Ocean and a Natural Wonder of the World.
The rugged cliff faces provide excellent snorkeling and rock pools to explore, while Green Turtles and rare Hawksbill Turtles can be seen on occasion on the beach or while snorkeling or diving.
